Prairie ironweed's vivid purple flowers in fuzzy clusters bloom atop sturdy stems, waving about in summer breezes and attracting the attention of swallowtail and Monarch butterflies—an excellent backdrop to heleniums, joe-pye weed, and other moisture-loving hardy perennials.
